The reading for Year of the Bible, Day 172, is Psalms 89-94: Psalm 90, which begins Book 4 of the psalter, is the oldest psalm, attributed to Moses.

Day 171: Psalms 81-88

The reading for Year of the Bible, Day 171, is Psalms 81-88: A diverse set of psalms: some from Asaph, some from David, others anonymous; some laments, others celebrations, moralism, or historical, or all three together. Ends with the mournful, “Darkness is my only companion.”

Day 169: Psalms 73-77

The reading for Year of the Bible, Day 169, is Psalms 73-77: These psalms are attributed to Asaph, the chief musician of the Temple, appointed by King David. Psalm 73 begins Book III of the psalter.

Day 168: Psalms 69-72

Day 167: Psalms 62-68

Day 166: Psalms 56-61

Day 165: Psalms 50-55

The reading for Year of the Bible, Day 165, is Psalms 50-55: Psalm 51 is one of the classic psalm of lament: “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your loving-kindness.” By tradition, it was composed by King David after the prophet Nathan confronted him following his adultery with Bathsheba.

Day 164: Psalms 43-49

The reading for Year of the Bible, Day 164, is Psalms 43-49: Psalm 42 began Book II of the Psalter. Psalm 43 is used by your priest and acolytes in the sacristy as part of the preparation for celebrating Mass.

Day 163: Psalms 38-42

The reading for Year of the Bible, Day 163, is Psalms 38-42: Psalm 34 is an acrostic, each verse beginning with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This structure is also used in Psalms 25, 111, 112, 114, and especially 119.
