Weekly News (the Link)

We Welcome you to our Worship and Fellowship

We are so pleased you have chosen to worship with us. If worship in an Episcopal church is new to you there is something about us you should know. In most Episcopal parishes less than half of the parishioners are ’cradle‘ Episcopalians! That means many of us have shared your experience of being new—even unfamiliar—to what is happening in church on a Sunday morning. We know the feeling and that makes it even more important for us to say to you, ”Welcome!“

Just something—there is much more—about what we are as a Christian community of faith: whenever we celebrate the Baptism of an infant or an adult, the whole congregation, along with the baptismal candidate, is invited to re-affirm answers to questions asked of us in The Episcopal Churchs Baptismal Covenant.

Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ?
I will, with God’s help.

Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself?
I will, with God’s help.

Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?
I will, with God’s help.

If you currently are not an active member of another church and these Christian affirmations lift your spirit the way they lift ours, then perhaps you have found your spiritual home at St. George’s Episcopal Church.

Parents are welcome to keep children in church with them. The Children’s Corner at the back of the Lady Chapel provides toys and materials for quiet activities.

Please join the Coffee Fellowship in the
Parish Hall following the Service!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

MUSICIANS WANTED

Would you like to sing a solo or play an instrument at the 10 o'clock service to keep the music alive this summer? If you would be interested, please contact either Jason or Lou Carol so it can be scheduled sometime this summer.

Lou Carol would be happy to accompany anyone on the organ, piano or guitar. So far we have people playing the mandolin, flute and recorder, and singing, for special music during the Offertory spot. Young people are especially encouraged to come forward and share their musical talents during a worship service.

CALLING ALL KNITTERS!

Do you know how to knit and have a bit of spare time on your hands over the summer? If so, The Seamen's Church Institute has published simple knitting patterns for a variety of hats, mittens and a scarf. Some copies of these patterns, plus a finished example of a hat can be found on the table by the noticeboard in the Dining Hall.

If you would like to help, but don't know how to knit, Pleasants Tinkler will be organizing knitting workshops in the Fall on Sundays after the 10am service. The hats will be part of our contribution to the ditty bags the Seamen's Mission provides at Christmas.

HELP RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

Do you have soda/gravy/soup/beer can tabs? Helen and Sten Dalstrom want them if you do. They collect the tabs, store them at their house and then when they have a big collection (according to Helen they have 75 pounds in their garage right now) they donate them to the Ronald McDonald House. Once the Ronald McDonald House has collected enough they turn them in for money for the charity.

This is an easy way to help. You can bring them to church and there will be a collection bowl on the Outreach table for the tabs.

MENS’ CLOTHING COLLECTION

MenzFit is a charitable organization based in Philadelphia and Washington DC which seeks to support low-income men in job-hunting by providing them with interview-appropriate clothing. Our collection point is the clothes rack in the closet at the back of the church, near the east door, where we currently put Career Wardrobe donations. Here is a list of the items they collect: Suits, Shoes, Ties, Sport Coats, Belts, Shirts, Cuff links, Khakis, Dress Pants, new Socks.

Please note: Sweaters, coats, scarves, gloves and other winter clothing are accepted October - February only.

Please consider your donation carefully and only donate the items listed above. We ask that all clothing donations be dry-cleaned or laundered and on hangers. All clothing must be gently worn or new. Please donate clothing that you would feel comfortable wearing to an interview. Receipts for tax deductions are available.

MenzFit does not accept: women’s clothing, tennis shoes, shorts, jeans, formalwear, double-breasted suits, worn socks, underwear or robes.

CAREER WARDROBE

The Career Wardrobe is the nation’s largest community-based non-profit organization serving women transitioning into the workforce by providing professional attire and innovative educational programs.

They now have their own thrift store in which they sell to the public any items not considered appropriate for their regular collections, making it even easier for you to clean out your closets. So keep the clothing contributions coming! We have a large red plastic container in the dining room for khakis, sneakers, polo shirts and scrubs, and a clothes rack in the closet at the back of the church, near the east door, for gently-used women's professional attire.

Intercessions are offered daily before Jesus in his Eucharistic Presence in St. George’s Church by Associates of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament. You are invited to request prayers for the sick, suffering, grieving, troubled, the departed, or in thanksgiving for anniversaries, birthdays, or special blessings.

To add names to the prayer list you may: 1) write them in the notebook to the left of the tract rack (immediately outside the door through which processions enter the church), or 2) mail them to St. George’s Church, One West Ardmore Avenue, Ardmore PA 19003, or 3) make your request electronically by clicking on this link.
